Red blood cells

Our practice uses Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to aid in the healing process of arthritis, torn or degenerated ligament structures, and joint pain. We take advantage of the concentrated healing substances present in your platelets and inject them to the areas which need to be repaired. The Platelet Rich Plasma is a specially processed blood plasma with a large concentration of platelets containing bioactive molecules; they can assist in cell growth and recruitment, blood vessel growth, and collagen synthesis. This promotes the regeneration and healing of cartilage, ligaments and other body tissues.

Our technique is a special procedure which can be easily completed in approximately 30 minutes. This is a validated process, meaning that every step has to meet certain criteria so that in the end we secure a bioactive cellular product. At first 35 ml of blood is taken from the patient, then PRP cells are separated by spinning the blood at high speeds and extract the, then process it in a centrifuge, causing a 3-5 fold increase in growth factor concentration. The PRP is then injected to the area which needs to be healed using ultrasound guidance to ensure that we deliver the healing substance precisely to the targeted areas.

Common conditions where PRP can be used to help healing include:

  • Shoulder disorders including arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis and rotator cuff tears
  • All types of Tendonitis including tennis elbow, achilles tendon, and heel spur syndrome
  • Muscle tears and sprains
  • Meniscal tears of the knee
  • Mild to moderate osteoarthritis of various joints
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Psoriatic arthritis
  • Achilles tendinitis
  • Knee osteoarthritis
